The Brick Works Farmers’ Market
The Farmers’ Market at Evergreen Brick Works offers an ideal opportunity to shop organic and local, while enjoying life in our ever-greening community.
The Brick Works Farmers’ Market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until October 28. Then for the first time, a Winter Farmers’ Market will continue until December 13.
Come to the Market to meet between 30 and 40 local farmers and organic food producers. They offer a wide diversity of healthful and delicious edibles… not only the freshest fruits and vegetables Ontario has to offer, but also delectable bread, meats, honey, cheese, coffee… and the list goes on! You will fall in love with the crafts at the Market and be entertained by musicians and performers too.
“You’ll be able to get plenty of your regular grocery shopping done here,” says Seana Irvine, Director of Programming for the Evergreen Brick Works. “Because we are a regional destination market, we’re providing a very broad range of products. It’s our second year and we're expanding. We want to encourage people to shop local, support Ontario farmers, and make food choices that help the environment."
Visit the Market to do your shopping… and then, stay awhile! So much is on the horizon at the Evergreen Brick Works. On August 23, the Farm to Fork Festival invites you to create tasty dishes alongside sought-after chefs and enjoy theatrical performances, art and live music. It's all wonderful inspiration for green living at MintoSkyy!
“Evergreen Brick Works is a community space for engaging in a wide range of environmental activities,” says Irvine, “and we want the community's input. We want to know how we can best serve Toronto’s needs.”
Evergreen welcomes both visitors and volunteers.
To get to the Farmers’ Market, just hop on Evergreen’s own free midday shuttle bus from Broadview subway station or take the TTC bus from Davisville. Limited parking is also available. Detailed directions, maps and location can be found at www.evergreen.ca.

The Music Hall
From a glittering past, to a spectacular rebirth! The Music Hall offers the world’s finest live entertainment, just minutes from MintoSkyy.

Back in 1919, the Prince Edward Viaduct had just been completed and Toronto was booming east of the Don Valley. Canadian movie pioneers Jule and Jay J. Allen were opening theatres all across the country. They called the Danforth Theatre “Canada’s First Super-Suburban Photoplay Palace”. With 1,600 seats, richly detailed silk wall tapestries and stately Georgian Revival architecture, it was a jewel in the crown of the Allen empire.
But times changed, and in 1923, after the forced sale of many of the Allen Theatres, the Danforth became the Century Theatre and then The Music Hall. Today it is the best-preserved former Allen Theatre in Toronto, with the stylized AT symbol still visible on its façade.
In 2005, under the stewardship of concert promoter and entrepreneur Glyn Laverick, The Music Hall came back to life after many years of dormancy. Rejuvenated with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, new seats, a VIP room, café, new dressing rooms and soundstage, systems upgrades and exterior improvements, The Music Hall was named Performing Arts Centre of the Year (of venues with 1,500 seats or fewer) at the 2008 Canadian Music Industry Awards.
The lineup of shows is equally impressive. In 2008, artists visiting The Music Hall included Sergio Mendez, Laurie Anderson, KT Tunstall and Richard Thompson… with Final Fantasy coming soon. The Music Hall is once again a glittering destination — and a cornerstone of the dynamic Danforth community.
“The Danforth is a wonderfully self-contained neighbourhood that offers something for everybody,” says Laverick, who is also the Chair of the Danforth Business Improvement Association. “You can make a day of it: go shopping, have a wonderful dinner, go to the theatre… it’s all here in your own backyard.”
Coming Soon: Final Fantasy, August 27th; The Barra MacNeils, December 17th; Dr. Draw, December 20th. For more listings check www.themusichall.ca.
