Eyes on the Skyy
Keri Washer Oversees MintoSkyy Construction
From the moment the first plans were drawn up for MintoSkyy, a bright and talented Project Manager has kept her eye on excellence. She’s Keri Washer, one of the construction industry’s rising stars!
From an early age Keri looked up to her father who worked in the construction industry. After graduating from McGill with a degree in Civil Engineering, she embarked on her own construction career that led her to Min to. After making her mark at MintoYorkville and MintoMidtown, she became Project Manager of MintoSkyy last spring.
While she finds all aspects of her career rewarding, she says it’s especially exciting to be working on MintoSkyy.
“This is a beautiful building with a fantastic location,” she says.
For the past ten months, Keri has worked with Minto’s architectural team and outside consultants on the design and development of the final suite layouts. It was also during these first months that preparations began for the demolition of the small retail plaza which, until very recently, was home to the sales team’s Welcome Centre and model suite.
After two short weeks of demolition, the sales team found themselves still on site, but in slightly smaller accommodations. Fully equipped with a stunning model kitchen, floor plans and by far the best view of the site, the sales team continues to operate in high gear with brisk sales during this first phase of construction!
On a compact site such as MintoSkyy, which measures 100 x 200 feet, construction’s ongoing accomplishments will be the result of superior coordination and planning of both manpower and machinery. Currently the shoring team is on site, working on the retaining wall for the 5 1/2 levels of underground parking. Onlookers can see cranes and drills installing the long steel piles which will make up the retaining wall. This is an exciting first step for everyone involved as it lays the foundation for this stunning residence.
Like all new Minto condominiums, MintoSkyy is a candidate for LEED® Canada certification and sees environmental responsibility as a top priority. At the demolition stage, construction waste was sorted for recycling. The construction team will continue to maintain a waste management and recycling program during all phases of construction.
Keri Washer says she enjoys the challenge of overseeing construction on a high-rise residential building, which involves as many as thirty different trades. She’s proud to be making her mark on the City of Toronto, her hometown, and leading the way for other women in the industry.
“I find my career extremely rewarding. We’re actually changing cityscapes and skylines… and there’s so much exciting development going on right now especially in Toronto. I can’t imagine a better place to be.
